[maemo-users] Thanks for all the help

After a lot of digging around and a lot of help off the mailing list if
finally was able to reinstall hildon-status-bar-battery:

What I did:

Followed these instructions:

http://maemo.org/community/wiki/ModifyingRootImage/

then after the filesystem was mounted on a lInux system, issued this command
to re-make a .deb file

fakeroot -u dpkg-repack -arch=armel --root /home/gbrehm/nokia/
hildon-status-bar-battery

While I'd like to take credit for all of this, was completed by a friend of
mine George Bhrem.
