That's my problem with it. The app itself seems to work fine, but I
can't find a way to load any maps to it other than the extremely dated
version that it finds.

Version 1.1.0j-6 was working fine for me last week, but now it crashes
on startup, just as you described. I haven't installed or uninstalled
anything since well before then, so this is very strange. (I'm still
on Chinook - there are a few issues with Diablo that need to be shaken
out before I can do that update.)

After updating to 1.1.0j-7, it's working again.
