Yes, the N900 supports HSDPA per the specs here:

In my original post, I was referring to the fact that Verizon is
currently developing its own UMTS/HSDPA/EDGE/GSM network and mobile
devices in the U.S. Without that network, their chances of selling the
iPhone next year are slim to none. q.v.
