That's plenty.
I have a 4GB card, 256M as a swap partition, the rest is an ext3 
partition for mer. The base install (i.e. uncompressing the mer tarball) 
is 495M (probably something less, I added a couple of small apps), of 
course the more packages you install, the more space you need.
