But I think the issue was applications keeping old versions of replaced files still open (there's a bug in bugs.maemo.org about this and the large Gtk icon cache files which was fixed in 44-1). After being terminated on shutdown, those old files cannot be anymore kept open by apps and file system can free the space taken by them. - Eero
