<p>The thing is, Maemo is only necessary on small devices with limited screen real estate and non-X86-compatible processors. In a tablet of the iPad's size, there's no reason not to use an Atom and full-blown desktop Linux.<br>

Covers everything the iPad does but retains the abilities of a full blown<br>
notebook. But then again, with the Apple price premium, that would cost an<br>
arm and a leg, so I guess this was the compromise to fill the gap between the<br>
iPod Touch and the MacBooks... We'll see in time if it comes across as a best<br>
or worst of both worlds :) I still think a Maemo tablet would have a much<br>
bigger appeal to me (where easy porting of desktop apps to it would really be<br>
a killer feature) than this, regardless of Nokia's current (non-)stance on<br>
tablets :)<br>
