What would this achieve when the phone icons are not actually displayed in the
call log of the Phone application, as this is where the benefit of having
different icons against Contact numbers would really be felt (or seen).

As it stands, I can make cellular calls to mobile phones or landlines and the
only icon shown in the call log is that of how I made the call - ie. over the
cellular network (or very occasional over Skype), you never see the icon for
the type of device that has been called (ie. mobile phone, landline phone).

For incoming calls the situation is the same, the only icon visible is that of
the network used and not the type of device that originated the call (which
would only be known if the number can be matched in Contacts).

To make this bug useful, the call log in the Phone app needs to show the icons
for both the network type and the device type used to make or receive a call.
