Thanks Jorgen & Marco for confirming how the import process currently works
when presented with "reasonable" data. The specifics that led to this bug are,
hopefully, a corner-case but time will tell.

Perhaps if there is more work on the Contacts app this could be addressed, but
I'm getting the impression from recent bugzilla posts that Fremantle is already
off the radar in terms of additional work/enhancements. :( I suppose this bug,
if fixed, will have to be pushed out to Harmattan.

@Marco: No offence meant, by the way... nice blog. :)

@Quim: Following this clarification by Jurgen & Marco, should this bug now be
reopened and possibly given a target milestone? I've changed the subject to
reflect the real issue at the heart of this bug.
