Sorry but I cant understand your point.

Any phone is able to manage that code, with the exception of n900, and some
phones from the jurassic era...

Any phone I tried in the last 5 years is able to manage  both, the SAT menu
with the SIM applications *and* the special codes as *101*1# .

Any phone, even a cheap Nokia 1100

Indeed the string *101*1p# is accepted from the phone (p is accepted as a
capital) and treated as a normal call, as you guessed it has no effect on the
service management (the sim aren't swapped).

If I send the same string via the com port, the phone returns "ERROR".


BTW I'm just curios...  

Why "# > send key" and "* > send key" are treated differently by the UI? 



P.S. Just to point to a potential additional problem, what happen if one locks
the SIM entering 3 times the wrong PIN code ?

The PUK unlock code will be accepted ? I bet it doesn't (I haven't tried yet)
