Summary: 3rd row Sym characters consumers 91 characters in an SMS
Product: Chat & Call & SMS
           Version: 5.0/(1.2009.41-10)
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: Low
         Component: Messaging
        AssignedTo: rtcomm at maemo.org
        ReportedBy: rabelg5 at gmail.com
         QAContact: im-chat-bugs at maemo.bugs

SOFTWARE VERSION:
1.2009.41-10

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:

1. Start typing out a new SMS.
2. Note the number of characters remaining (mine was 105 at the time).
2. Hit Fn-Sym to open the Symbols dialog.
3. Tap a character on the 3rd row.
4. Pick a character to place it on.
5. Note the number of characters remaining after entering a degree character.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
I'm not entirely familiar with the SMS character counting system, but I'd
expect somewhere between 1 and 5. 91 seems a bit extreme.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
91 characters are consumed.

REPRODUCIBILITY:
Always

OTHER COMMENTS:
If one procedes to add a second 3rd-row character to the message it is then
counted correctly as a single character.
