For interoperability reasons (synchronisation, sending contacts via bluetooth,
email etc) the fields need to match what the VCARD specification defines. 
Since that (<http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2426#section-3.3.1>) doesn't support
arbitrary user-defined TYPE values this is probably a WONTFIX.  The only
predefined value I see that could possibly be of use here is "pref", ie setting
one of the of the mobile numbers in your example as the preferred one.

Just out of curiosity: is there another addressbook that can create a contact
with user-defined TYPE?  If so, what happens if you export that contact as a
VCARD and import it into the N900?
