Parentheses are reserved characters for URIs
(<http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3986#section-2.2>) so the chat UI behaviour is
correct.

The correct link in the above example would be
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_%281983_miniseries%29>, which works as expected
when received in the Maemo chat client.
