We have contact grouping by IM account, available through the Contacts
application menu. It should even become available via desktop shortcuts in a
follow-up release.

I'd be careful in picking up my contacts :) But yes, a one-time effort to
organize your contacts for better usability may be required after configuring
an IM account.
