This now is a separate issue, which I filed as bug #5872.

Please report this in a separate bug as well, and provide more information on
what kinds of contacts you can't get synchronized back. Are those contacts
synchronized from IM contact lists, contacts modified locally, or both? The PC
Sync settings are also important to mention. It's possible to set up one-way
configuration there, make sure it's not your case.
