powered from the charger doesn't mean that the battery is absent, but it
can be flat. Anyway it could work without the battery. the battery is
imposed by a sw constraint rather than hw. Some useless legacy from

In some cases you can plug it out and the device still runs. Till bme
finds out.

that's a wsod on its way; better get it fixed right  away if it is still
covered by the warranty.
