I also have $20, down to $7 on Gismo. Still works. But then I use it
every couple months. It could be 6 months of dormancy, not 6 months
since purchase -- that would seem to make more sense.

It's possible that some problems using Gismo and/or Skype at hot spots
could be related to some ISP settings that inhibit or prohibit VOIP
activity as prevention against bandwidth overload (like downloading
streaming vid's isn't a drag?). Their issue may also be bandwidth
uploading limitations. Who knows. Also, this 'firewall' may be at the
ISP, not hot spot firewall. The hot spot provider may not even be aware
of the VOIP limitation.

I feel like it could be a great service, but there are things that just aren't there, like the fact that I have never been able to log onto the support forums, even after multiple support requests and resolutions, and some, IMHO, strange design decisions in their client.
> Mostly, however, the difficulty of using Gizmo at "just any" wireless spot keeps me from taking advantage of the service. This very well may be the same with Skype et al., but more often than not, I find myself butting up against the firewall and not being able to make a call. I know this is more the fault of inexperienced sysadmins and sloppy installations, but that doesn't make the experience any less frustrating.
