FYI: in general there should be no reason to turn the device off because:
- Turning the device off while you're not using it doesn't usually help you
  to save battery. The reason is that the device power-on uses more power than
  if the device would idle for a few days (idling = all applications are
  closed and there are no Home applets that would poll the network and user
  hasn't installed any 3rd party software that drains battery in the 
  background)
- In the airplanes you can just put the device to "offline" mode from
  the power menu.  This disables all the radios from it

Turning the device off is something you should need to do only if you're not
planning to use it for next week(s).  When the device is idle, it's best to
lock its touchscreen & keys by pressing power + select keys (you can unlock
it the same way and in N810 there's even a special lock key).
