There were several people who said during the last election that they
were disappointed there weren't more nominations from the community
other than self-nominations.

IIRC, lardman was one of the people who mentioned this.

Non-self-nominated candidates were possible before too - the only
difference this time is that I explicitly said so in the announcement. I
hope that people who feel people are good for the council will consider
talking to the person before nominating them, but I think that it's good
to allow nominations coming from someone other than the nominee.
