You're right. Both AbiWord and Gnumeric were ported to the Maemo
platform recently. INdT sponsored developers to work on these ports.

For AbiWord, Renato Filho already commited all code to the CVS
repo. (AbiWord even has binary packages for the maemo platform)

For Gnumeric, Eduardo Lima sent a few versions of the pathes to the
gnumeric mailing list. Afaik, Eduardo recently got a Gnome CVS account
to maintain the port (which is being commited to the CVS repo by Jody
Goldberg (?)).

AbiWord and Gnumeric can read Word and Excel files, respectively
(even on the Maemo platform). There are memory restrictions, obviously
- you can't expect to open seven hunded pages word document with
AbiWord on the Nokia 770 and expect it to work corretly :)
(small/medium sized documents work perfectly, though)

Again, we (INdT) are involved in this work :)

INdT is sponsoring two developers to work on OASIS OpenDocument
support for AbiWord and Gnumeric.

For AbiWord, Daniel Carvalho is working on OpenDocument Writer
support. He based his work on previous art by Dom Lachowitz and Robert
Staudinger. Nowadays, Daniel is focusing his efforts on import (load)
of OpenDocument Writer support. Export (save) support will come as
soon as import is working reasonably well. (in case you're wondering,
we expect this filter to be quasi-finished by the end of 2005)

For AbiWord, Luciano Wolf is working on OpenDocument Calc support.
Also he has based his work on previous work by Jody Goldberg (and
maybe others?). Luciano too, is focusing his efforts on the import
filter. (as with AbiWord, we expect to have a quasi-finished version
of this filter implemented by the end of 2005)

   Best regards,

   Rodrigo
