Hi Luis, Thank you for those infos. I am fully agree with you and think that Java on the 770 could be really great and could allow lots of apps to run easily. I spent part of the past week end on dealing with scratchbox and create a suitable dev environment. My first feeling is that, even if it allows developers to build and debug some apps, it is a bit rough. Sure, having a decent JVM run on the 770 make also possible to use other dev environments and ide. Concerning the choice between CLDC and CDC I think the best option is to target CDC 1.1 with Foundation Profile at minimum as CLDC is way too restricted. I have had some success into retrieving and installing a jamvm (a version 1.4.1 but not from http://gilles.frattini.free.fr/wordpress/index.php?cat=2 as it seems that this one does not install correctly) but I had not time yet to do some real and deep tests. Sorry I will need to find again the corresponding url for my download. Last, having jazelle JIT could be great but I fear that we will not be able to get infos from ARM. So for now I am not really optimistic.... I think it would be nice to implelment CLDC1.1 as a subset of classpath .20, and the MIDP1.0(or the much larger MIDP 2.0) as jni calls to GTK/Hildon. > Once that is complete, jbluez or a bluetooth package on top of javax.comm(rxtx's implementation) could be added to support JSR82. > > I know the screen is larger than what most J2ME targets are, but there is no reason we can't use all the pixels in new development, or do some kind of zooming on older Midlets. > > Nokia could also give us a hand by replacing the jamvm component with something of their's that could use the ARM Jazelle extensions to really speed up java on the device. > > Having j2me on the device would instantly get us hundreds more applications and games.
