It turns out I made a mistake when I reconfigured the kernel to
support NFS, I enabled NFS but I didn't enable NFS v3 client support.

So final summary, in case this might help anyone else:

1 - the v2.0 beta kernel does not have NFS client support enabled,
which means that using CPU transparency with scratchbox will not
work. Maybe there should be a temporary note in the CPU transparency
howto to indicate this?

2 - by following/adapting the instructions in the KernelCompilation
howto of the maemo wiki, you can build and install a new
kernel that does have NFS enabled. In my case, I built the nfs
support as modules, four in total: sunrpc.ko, lockd.ko, nfs_acl.ko,
nfs.ko. I installed the new kernel using the flasher (as per the
howto) and I copied the modules into the /root directory on the 770,
and installed them manually using insmod.

3 - with the NFS modules loaded, the rest of the CPU transparency
howto worked. I was able to build the helloworld example and
verified that sbrsh is working correctly.
