Hmmm....I did not plug the 770 to a USB connection for a long time (at least 6 
weeks) before the failure. I did not have data loss, just maemo mapper 
stopped working at some time, I did not have to worry about this.

Somebody mentioned "white screen of death". That rang some bells, I did not 
pay attention to these postings before. For sure, I am curious what is the 
real reason for the failure (and if Nokia knows it). Waiting for the repaired 
device is not so hard, I got my N800 last week as well, i.e. the 770 broke 
just in the right moment ;-)
