I've just tested USB Networking on another PC: an old one I've, with
the same Ubuntu 8.04, and the usb connection works fine with this
pc!!!

I don't think so... else it would not work with the other PC

it's possible, but... why? What's wrong in my system?

the usb cable and/or port work fine with the other PC.

At this point I think the problem is on the Ubuntu system I've on this
notebook. How can I identify the problem exactly? Maybe a bug in the
kernel? (I'm usng proposed-updates repository on this machine).

Please let me know if you have any idea.

Best regards,
