You can add your own .install file in your entry at maemo.org/downloads/ for now. The 'editable .install' field can be used for that. The fact that they are generated doesn't mean they are for general use ;) It makes it easy for testers, but should not be used by regular users. Perhaps they do more harm than good, indeed.
