Have you checked your indicator light settings in settings app? Please notice the PatternCommunicationIM blue flashing is only while screen is dim and only for IM, aiui. Also your link is to DEactivate_LEDs - probably a mishap. you could do a echo 50 > /sys/class/leds/lp5523:b/brightness to power up the blue LED permanently and see if the hardware is ok. (echo 0 to switch back off) But if you ever see a white indicator, then the blue LED is definitely ok, no need for that test.
