Yep - router/gateway/first-hop/whatever you want to call it.

You're right about being on the "wrong" network, and your first
thought matches my own.  However, I'm sure I've seen the behaviour of
"default gateway isn't on the same network that I am" on a *working*
Windows box before, so just wondered if it /could/ be a valid setup.

Pinging the 46.1 address gave me a different error: something like
"connect: permission denied".

Can anyone confirm that an IP of is reachable from a
Linux box if configured correctly?

Any other insight would be welcome!
