It's exactly the same size as the keyboard on my T-series ThinkPad,
which is the same size as the alphanumeric section of a random USB
keyboard I have by my desk.  Vertically, no, the keys are not that deep,
but I always assumed "full-size" meant the size and relative positions
of the keys rather than their depth.

Right, the Apple keyboard is too small for comfortable typing while
holding it on your lap.
