True -- unfortunately, there is no way to just move the entire data dir
somewhere else. As a result you can't get rid of the default dir
altogether, since the POI file will be recreated. AFAIK there is no way
to move it. However, by moving the maps db files, you can keep the bulk
of the data at a saner place.

Also, it doesn't actually move the existing db files, when changing
their path. If you want to retain your already downloaded maps: Change
the location as described above for each actually used Map Repository.
Then close Mapper, and move the db files to the new location. On next
start, Mapper will use these without the need of downloading them again.
