This is true.

This however, is not. :)

You can actually move the poi.db, too, using gconf-editor (not installed
by default). The relevant GConf key to change:
  /apps/maemo/maemo-mapper/poi_db

After changing this path as well, you can move the last remaining file
in the default location just as described for the maps db files, and
delete the now empty Maemo Mapper dir.
