That's not an argument as providers often modify the device's software before
selling them.
Did you buy none of your phones that provide this application in a provider's
shop but directly from the company producing them? Did you buy none of your
phones with a contract with a provider?

Any URL/link describing it or explaining that it's an application provided by
Nokia and not put on the phone by your provider?

For your interest, N900 is the first phone based on the Maemo platform. Hence
all other Nseries devices that have phone functionality are based on Symbian.
Symbian and Maemo are completely different software platforms and have
basically nothing in common. It's pretty much the same as comparing it to
Windows Mobile or Android.
