I can't say anything about bug #6936 as i can't even get this far into a
conversation. It is for now unusable for any practical purpose in the current
state which is a big downer.

I can confirm this version of the bug for at least two N900 in different
asterisk setup while other SIP ATA work great on/at the same
asterisk/connection/time.

The bug even shows up with the local echo test while other ATA work great.
I also get great sound otherwise in cell or skype mode.

Anyway, for a phone, this bug should pretty much be a critical to blocker one!
