What kernel sources did you use for compiling the driver? What was the

All sounds ok to me. Actually, now that I think of it more, you have
to run wlan-cal after insmoding cx3110x.ko:

chroot /mnt/initfs /usr/bin/wlan-cal

That might help. Sorry, I should document this properly.

You could try to replace cx3110x.ko in /mnt/initfs/lib/modules/, if
there is enough free space. Most probably not.

I haven't ever tried dev rootfs, but I would assume it's not the
problem here.
