Thanks for reporting this.
This is a WONTFIX as the blinking LED is considered to be enough notification,
plus if this also applies to chat messages etc or if you receive a lot of SMS
this would really easily drain the battery.
There are currently no plans to provide a UI for this.

Please note: Though this is a WONTFIX for Maemo5 it does not mean that Nokia
does not take this request into account for future Maemo planning.
